New Year’s Eve Wedding at The Merchant Kitchen

Jennifer & Brent had a beautiful and intimate New Year’s Eve wedding at The Merchant Kitchen. They hired us a few months out so we didn’t waste any time getting the day-of details organized, making a few last-minute suggestions for vendors and finessing the timeline.

If you don’t know The Merchant Kitchen it’s time you went. I would describe it as a fun, trendy, Asian fusion meets street food(?) but real-classy in all the right ways.

Jennifer & Brent decided to get married with 100 of their closed friends and family at The Merchant Kitchen. If you know what that means here in Winnipeg it means cold. Really cold! New Year’s Eve is always a -30C sorta day. But there was no way we were going to let that be the case inside for Jennifer & Brent. I suggested LOTS of candles and the lighting in The Merchant Kitchen is already really wonderful so it had the most beautiful ambience and warms.

We added a few touches of flowers here and there but there really didn’t need to be much decor added at all.

We just need to pause and enjoy that brick wall for a minute. If you look closely you can see the roaster feet (bottom right). For the ceremony we wanted the wall lighting off to really bring the focus to the front of the room.

We took out as many tables as we could and set all the chairs out to create a cosy ceremony space.

Once the ceremony was over the cocktails were flowing and we flipped the room, brought back in all the tables and, set the rest of the room for dinner.

Because the bar is both a focal point in the room and built-in we made sure to utilize it for seating and speeches. It was a great podium, as well, when needed.

Another great thing about The Merchant Kitchen is their prep kitchen that’s part of the room. You can watch – and smell – all the food being made which only adds to the excitement of it coming your way.

Post reception, after dinner was done, speeches had happened, the tables on the one side the restaurant were cleared (again) to make room for the dancefloor. It being New Year’s Eve, of course, we needed a lot of space to dance it up and room to celebrate ringing it in.
