Ballroom Chic – Ukrainian & Chinese Wedding

Uylana & Leon had a wonderfully chic wedding day. Combining their cultures into a balanced Ukrainian & Chinese wedding was a sweet challenge for us. Not every couple is connected to their culture or heritage, and that’s ok, but we make sure we chat through both religion, family, and cultural details to ensure nothing is missed. It might take these chats for them to either remember what’s important to them or give them some guidance on areas to look into with family. Also, this can mean us learning (behind the scenes or by our client’s gracious help) more about their regionally specific cultural elements and blending them into the day.

For Ulyana & Leon it was clear from the beginning which culture elements were most important to both of them: Ulyana to be married in Sts. Vladimir & Olga Cathedral and a late night Ukrainian buffet. For Leon the Lion Dance and drummers for their grand entrance.

With those details on top of Ulyana’s chic and clean design ideas we started working away finding the right vendors, designing the room, lighting, flowers, and linens with an amazing team.

Below are some of our favourite pics from the day and some planning details we want to share with you about this chic Ukrainian & Chinese Wedding.

Ulyana picked a lovely simple gold foil invitation suite from Minted that we semi-customized to fit their needs.

This is Ulyana’s dream dress. She fly out to go dress shopping, tried on many, and this, this one. There is just something to be said about getting something that 100% custom fits you. This dress was just so perfect for Ulyana and transitions perfectly through the day’s events.

Lauren from Stone House Creative captured Ulyana perfectly through her bouquet and it was – by far – the finishing touch on the whole look.

When there are kids involved we always have a little “coaching session” to help them get down the aisle and feel nice and comfortable. You can’t see it in this photo but there is candy waiting for this little flower girl for when they’re all done their staring role as cutest being in the room.

Ulyana & Leon were ushered in during their Grand Entrance and then – with their guests – enjoyed a full Loin Dance.

Sugar & Salt Bake Shoppe did an amazing job on a chic and minimally artistic sweets table (Pro Tip: If you want it looking this chic don’t over stock the table with ALL the treats you ordered. Have your Planner restock it throughout the night).

Ulyana wanted the ballroom to look warm, rich and, chic. The right amount of candles was the biggest focus along with subtle up lights, dimmed chandeliers, the right light gold textured linen, and lots of gold accents.  We think it turned out perfectly and as the night went on, and the lights were dimmed, it was that much more romantic.

A big thanks to all the friends, family, and vendors that helped bring together Ulyana & Leon’s Ukrainian/Chinese Ballroom Wedding:
