Nicky & Sam’s Hecla Island Resort Wedding

Nikki and Sam has a beautiful sunny Hecla Island Resort wedding. Can you think of anything more dreamy than getting married lakeside? It sounds pretty dang ideal to me.

We got started working with them early on, I believe it was about a year and a half before their wedding. The perfect time to get started when you’re clients with a busy lifestyle.

Both being in the medical professions they were definitely very very busy people, so it was nice to have so much time to work together on all the planning (we did both Wedding Planning and Design with them). We could spread out our planning meetings, vendor meetings, take planning breaks for work travel and, do a lot back-and-forth via email when needed.

When they booked with us they knew that I myself was already booked on their wedding day. It was a total bummer for me that I wasn’t able to be with them on their day – they’re such great people. I so would’ve loved to but able to celebrate with them. But no matter, I knew they were in good hands – with Heather – one of our Lead Coordinators, so we carried on with planning and Heather took over come the wedding day.

Nicky and Sam wanted to have a relaxed, chill, intimate wedding with their closest family and friends. Hecla Island is such a hidden gem of a location. It’s just far enough away to feel like you’ve gone on a little road trip, but not too far away to feel like you’ve really had to travel a lot and spent the whole day on the road.

Lakeview Hecla Rsort is a great place to get away. They have a sort of Nordic style spa area, a nice restaurant, and an intimate ballroom that works perfectly for the style of wedding.

It was a beautiful warm late summer day, perfect for their wedding. They did a little hike out to the woods for the first look and then did some photos with their wedding party.

The ceremony took place on the grounds and was followed by a cocktail hour up on the patio outside of the ballroom.

Most guest came the day before, enjoyed a little get together and, stayed the next day and had brunch together. Isn’t that wonderful? Getting to spend a little mini holiday with all your closest and dearest.

Nicky and Sam didn’t have a lot of direction as far as what they wanted for decor. They didn’t feel they had a large fashion sense or huge direction with decor and the aesthetic of the wedding. So instead of focusing on some of the obvious things that couples usually mention like types of flowers and colours they like, I asked for more personal questions like what they like to do and different interest they have. From that and some keywords they used to describe what sort of wedding they wanted, what sort of celebration, I made suggestions on linens, colours, florals and some bright tones.

After some of the key pieces were in place we broke it down into smaller elements like stationary, the sweets table, escort cards, and other little cute details to really personalize it and make it feel like them.

The day was relaxed with a back to back ceremony and cocktail hour into the reception.

The overall arch of the day was really just a laid back fun vibe. I’m sure you can see that through the photos and the copious laugher and the clear joy these two – and their guests – were having.

A big thanks to all the vendors, family, and friends that helped bring together Nicky & Sam’s Hecla Island wedding:
