Janelle & Nyco’s Canada Day Tent Wedding

It was such a joy getting to work with these two on their Canada Day tent wedding. I mean really, they combined a few of my favourite things: being outside, my country, dogs as guests, and tent weddings. What’s not to love? I was totally sold on their plans from the beginning.

When we started chatting about their vision for the day they wanted to have their wedding on their land. They had recently bought some land to build their dream home on. All that was there was a open grassy area (future house site) and a whole lot of trees.

Tent weddings are a challenge at the best of times but we really had to bring it all in. All the creature comforts – lux bathrooms, power, great food and drink, lounge area – because they wanted their guests to feel at home and taken care of (and we totally love that!).

We’ve said it before; having the right caterer is crucial for your wedding. You have to pick for your style of wedding, if they can handle that sort of wedding (tent weddings aren’t for the faint of heart), and is there food consistently good. Of course there’s so much more that goes into it but those are some key things we focus on.

Urban Prairie Cuisine did not disappoint. They rolled up with this great bus and got right to work prepping and setting. Everyone (including all the people with allergies and food restrictions) were taken care of. It’s always a meal to talk about when they’re doing it.

Janelle & Nyco wanted a really unique mix of heritage foods (from their backgrounds) and Canadian classics. We had deconstructed tourtiere, bannock with butter and saskatoon jam to name a few.

How wonderful is this! Of course you’ll look back on your wedding photos but to know you’re starting your lives together on YOUR future home’s property. It gives me the warm and fuzzies all over.

Janelle & Nyco had bold and vibrant colours in the design and Fache Floral Designs totally nailed it in the bouquets and centre pieces. Giant blooms and epic greenery really filled out the wedding design.

Parking attendance – a total must.

Janelle’s Dad build this wonderful structure for the couple to get married under. It had such great symbolism of the future site of their home together and where it all got started.

Of course the dogs needed to be a part of the day. You can’t leave such important family members out.

His and hers signature drinks. They were totally perfect choices on this hot Canada Day.

See that tree? It was in the perfect spot on the property to just put it inside the tent. Janelle – this was such a brilliant idea.

Their friends and family brought them all sorts of personalized and home-made gifts including this sassy pie.

Fireworks are that much better with popcorn and mini donuts! (Fresh from The Forks that day)

A big thanks to all the vendors, family, and friends that helped bring together Janelle & Nyco’s Canada Day Tent Wedding:
