What is a Wedding Design Anyways?

You might be hearing this a lot and reading it on blogs often; “Create your wedding design”, “Come up with your wedding design”. But you might not have a hot clue on what this is. That’s ok, we got you.

Through our Wedding Design Series we’re going to share with you all sorts of tips on how to think through, visualize and, put together your wedding design – and what it is in the first place.

Ok, so let’s start with the what.

So there are lots of areas of your wedding design you need to consider but most of it should really start with your colours and or theme. Sure, you may not have a theme exactly but I’m sure you can think of a handful of key words to describe your wedding. They might be things like “fun, exciting, personal” or “classic, elegant, regal”. Go with those and start there. We’re going to call that your theme. A theme doesn’t have to be excessively defined like “rustic elegance” or “Modern romance” or “garden party”. A theme can simply be a concept or feeling brought to life through your wedding.

Bite-sized pieces.

From there break down areas or colours that could help you bring your theme into being. The most obvious choices for “classic, elegant, regal” would be black tie, gold, white, black and a pop of an accent colour (red, blue, purple, etc).

Don’t worry, obvious doesn’t mean it has to be boring but we use the example to simply show you how things progress.

Start an Inspiration Board

After you have your theme and colours you can get out your scissors and glue stick (or Pinterest) and start collaging. Pull together a few collages (what we call Inspiration Boards) and you have a broad view of your Wedding Design.

From there you need to break it down and start finding the right vendors to bring it all together, but that’s for our next post!
