How to pull off good Signature Drinks at your Wedding

Signature drinks are a great way to add another personal touch to your wedding. Signature drinks are fun, memorable, and a great way to get the party started!

Picking a signature drink can be hard. You want a drink that represents you as a couple or each of you individually. It can be your favourite cocktail or something that matches the theme of your wedding. A signature drink should be unique, delicious, but also easy to prepare and serve. The number of signature drinks is up to you but we would recommend having at least two (one that’s the bride choice drink, and one for the groom).

When planning out your signature drinks there’s a few things you’re going to want to consider to make sure you’re really pulling it off well. Sometimes it’s not best to just simply pick your favourite drink if it doesn’t go with the theme or season for example.

Here’s are tips on how to pull off good signature drinks at your wedding.

The season of your wedding.

Maybe don’t pick a beach drink if your wedding is in winter. But if you just can’t live without a fruity drink pick something that’s a little more seasonally fitting instead – best of both worlds. Go with a fruit cocktail that’s a little more hardy like a plum or blackberry.

What sort of feeling do you want the drink to give your guests?

You may not have even considered this when it comes to drinks but it is a signature drink for a reason. You want it to stand out and to give off a certain something to and for your guests. Maybe you want them to feel warm and fuzzy. Maybe excited and energized. Keep this in mind, and the tone of your wedding when picking your signature drinks.

Will you need special glassware?

Most hotels and halls have the standard wine glasses, water glasses, and champagne flutes. They might -if you’re lucky – have enough rock glasses for a whole wedding. Beyond that you will likely have to add on to your rental with them if you want a fancy or particular glass.

We think it’s 100% worth it. How fun would it be to walk around with a cobalt blue goblet while sipping that blackberry mojito? It also can act as a really fun display by the bar – which really adds to your wedding design.

When do you want to serve your signature drink?

Some couples choose to serve it all night long. Some opted to just have it during cocktail hour. You’ll want to talk to your venue about options and costs and consider those factors as well.

Don’t forget about the garnish.

Each drink has it’s own finish and you’ll never want to leave this out. Remember though if it’s not something standard like lemon, lime, or cherry (usual bar items) your venue might have a charge for this.

Taste tests are a must.

Once you have an idea of what you want the next step is the fun part – tasting them! You can go down to a restaurant and order away, or simply pick up the supplies and play around yourself.  You can even invite over the wedding party and get their opinions! Start with some classics and add your own spin. Most venues simply just need the exact recipe you want served, so why not make your own if you can’t find something that’s just right?

Name your drink.

Another important part of your signature drink is the name. Here is your chance to be extra creative. Come up with something clever and cute that your guests will gush over. Of course if your drink is a Bud Light don’t feel you have to rename it – it’s clever enough that you just stuck to what you like. Your guests will get a laugh out of the contrast between the his and her drinks.

Good Signage.

Your guests won’t know you have a signature drink if you don’t have good signage. Make sure you have signage on all bar and make it interesting and welcoming too. Have your MC also mention the drink and better yet have the drink with them when they do.
